Action Step: Your Journal

There are many reasons why writing down what you're feeling can help, but the main one is that it helps dispel your rage, frustration, or despair. You can purge everything you're thinking. You can write exactly how you feel. When you go back and read some of it after a few weeks have passed, you will probably gain some perspective on the situation, and see that you have indeed come a little further along the path to healing and letting go.

Buy a journal that you can carry with you wherever you go, and when you begin to feel anxious, sad, or angry, write write write and let it all out.

Action Step: Purge Your Reminders

Put away or throw out everything (gifts, photos, mementos, music) that reminds you of your ex. You want to focus on yourself, your solutions and your new life, not on your partner, your past together, or the problem. Being reminded of your ex partner, whether the memories are hurtful or loving, will not help you move on or heal. It is very important not to have triggers that bring you back to dwelling on the situation. Also, don't listen to any music that brings back memories of your time together, or visit special restaurants, parks, or places the two of you used to frequent often.

Action Step: Give Yourself a Gift

As you begin to leave old relationship patterns behind, you will begin to make significant connections to life and to yourself. One simple and very positive thing you can do for your 'self' is visit a spa, get a massage, or any other nurturing health care treatment that you enjoy. Treating yourself to some personal pleasures helps you focus on you. This is an important step to healing and self-nurturing.
